Saving Game of Thrones: Fixing The Finale

The finale of Game of Thrones was fine. The writers and show-runners were able to wrap up all of the individual stories and end things on a decent note. For the most part, all of the characters that fans care about had a happy ending. Bran is the King, Tyrion is the Hand with his band of misfits on the small counsel, Sansa is Queen of the Independent North, and Arya is off on her adventures to the west. Jon, who had a pretty terrible ending to his story, still gets to live out life beyond the wall with his buddy and his dog.

However, there are some tiny changes that would have absolutely saved the final episode of Game of Thrones. Changes that would not have altered the story too much. Here are some options on what they could have done to fix the finale:

Scenario 1

Option A:

When Jon kills Daenerys, he cradles her and goes down on a knee to set her on the ground. Then, have him remove his face to reveal he is Arya Stark. We had all of that build up with Arya and the faceless men, only for her to use it just a few times. This would have made all of that nonsense with her training worthwhile.

Option B:

When Jon kills Daenerys, he cradles her and goes down on a knee to set her on the ground. Drogon gets all pissed and yells and melts the throne. Jon then should have hopped on Drogon and flown North of the wall. Then, when Tormund goes through the tunnel in the wall, the gate opens up and he sees Jon waiting there with Drogon.

Scenario 2

Option A:

They had the counsel deciding the fate of Tyrion Lannister. When everyone was going around deciding on the next king – they all agreed on Bran “The Broken” Stark. Immediately after it was decided – it should have flashed to Bran, showing his white eyes coming back to normal. That would have indicated that he had warged into the others to vote for himself.

Option B:

They had the counsel deciding the fate of Tyrion Lannister. When everyone was going around deciding on the next king – they all agreed on Bran “The Broken” Stark. Immediately after it was decided – it should have flashed to Bran, showing his eyes a light blue – just like the Night King.

Final Thoughts

In the end, it is really hard to end a series and leave everyone walking away happy. The season was rushed and I feel bad for the writers trying to force everything into just a few episodes – after taking so much time and care with it in the previous seasons.

What would you have changed with the finale?
